Importance: Manganese is part of several essential enzymes and triggers the activities of numerous others, including antioxidant and energy production processes.

Effects of shortage: There is no recognized deficiency disorder in humans. In animals, lack of manganese leads to abnormal offspring, and poor bone development and growth.

Foods high in manganese: Cloves, black pepper, garbanzo beans, pineapple, spinach, oats, strawberries, cinnamon, raspberries, brown rice, beet greens foods rich in manganese.
